Help for Heroes - H4H 4x4 European Rally 2010 on 19/06/2010

Hi All...I hope you can help Team LRM.

I cannot remember the last time I asked someone for monies to help me raise cash for such a terrific cause....well this June my friend Jonathan and I are embarking on a trip around Europe visiting 6 countries in 10 days!

Already we have secured a vehicle from Land Rover and had various businesses support our cause but this is the first time I have called upon my friends and colleagues to support me. So far Jonathan has done all the fund raising but now I need to pull my socks up and beat Jonathan’s target. We have decided to share the same just giving page as we are Team LRM and please note that ALL your monies will be donated as TEAM LRM will be covering all entry fees, fuel, accommodation, chocolate and ferry costs!

Below is a brief description of the event however you can find further information at www.h4hrally.co.uk

Help for Heroes doesn't build memorials, it rebuilds lives. It's not a stuffy cause either; they're in touch with both its beneficiaries and donors, and it’s amazing to think that they've only been around since October 2007.

We wish we could do something practical to help - but we're a bit rubbish at stuff like that.  What we can do is something which challenges us, and could possibly stimulate our families and friends to sponsor us as an act of support for our chosen cause.  So our chosen challenge is a 1650 mile 4x4 European Rally, visiting 6 countries in 10 days in June 2010 it follows the route of liberation from the training grounds of Salisbury Plain,  to the Normandy beaches, to the echoes of the horror of Dachau Concentration Camp ending up at the Eagle’s Nest, Berchtesgaden near Salzburg in Austria . This is an ace chance to combine our passion (affliction?) for Land Rovers and to show the Toyota and Mitsubishi boys how it should be done, whilst raising money for Help for Heroes.  The event will require 1st class navigation, driving skills, timekeeping and tenacity to succeed.

We're Team LRM (Land Rover Monthly),  and as an early entrant we're team no.6 out of the 45 teams competing in this year's inaugural event. Our expectation is not only to finish, but with a top 5 position in the prize-zone!  With Dominic's extensive off road rally raid driving experience and Jonathan's European off roading experience (and better sense of direction) we should be in with a good chance.  Our mode of transport will be a Land Rover Discovery 4, generously supplied by Land Rover themselves.

The money raised by teams will be donated to Help for Heroes. We have a target to raise £200 minimum sponsorship, and would like to achieve a  realistic £1000 through your generosity.  Rest assured though, your sponsorship is not used to cover any costs.  We pay for the entry fee, ferry, fuel, camping fees and insurance. Your money goes to H4H.  With an event like this there are no losers though - Help for Heroes is the only winner. Any donation, however small (or large!) is much appreciated, so please Team LRM’s JustGiving page http://www.justgiving.com/JonathanBuckley to Help those Heroes now.

Kind Regards

Dominic

December 2009
On the 5th we had a very successful christmas dinner and raffel at the old smokee. A huge thankyou to all our sponsors who kindly donated prizes towards our raffel.

The committee would like to remind its members that all vehicles attending club events and organised activites, must be road legal. Or transported on a trailer towed by a road legal vehicle.

September 2009
The club has purchased a new marquee, this will be brought along to club events to provide us all with the necessary shade at lunch time! Where we can all enjoy the free BBQ provided by the club and cooked for us by Mr & Mrs "old man" Roberts.
These things are only available because of the fantactic support of our members!!!

Online Update, August 08

Hello everyone and welcome to the second newsletter !!!

Well as you are well aware we have just had the monthly natter @ the Halfmoon......with a twist, thanks go to all involved in setting that one up,and to the kind people from the Halfmoon for letting it all happen (and the chap in the kitchen) !!!! I will add feedback here as and when it arrives.

Competitions !!!!!!! It has been mentioned in dispatches (Nick told me to do it) that the monthly web competition should rear it's head again, so this is going to be happening within the next few days. It will be along the lines of close up pictures of parts....you guess it first - you win, or of places...you guess it first - you win, depending on how I get on blagging them there will be prizes, some will be good prizes, some may be naff, we will have to wait and see, and fianally on this subject. . . . . my decision is final !!!

Feedback. Please keep your feedback on the club and it's activities coming in, we know it's been a bit slack on the trials and offroad events so far this year but this has been out of anyones control due to the weather turning both sites into a mire, new sites are hopefully going to be available in the not to distant future.

Could we remind all of you that it's membership renewal time !! these funds are what pay for the MSA affiliation & Insurance for the club.....One of the main benefits membership brings is cheaper events !!!!

As you all may know.... the weather ruined any plans for the Steam Fair !!! But those of us who went across the border to Wales had a good few days laning - some of the lanes and routes we followed where pretty special ! one thing we did notice was that there wasnt a shortage of sheep.......or trees in certain areas.......or reservoirs. Between us we took hundreds of piccies, some of which are on Flickr.

A note from the Secretary....
       September 2010 Update.
Well, what a summer we have had. Starting with the Bath and West Show, over 30 members made the journey to Somerset and enjoyed a long weekend, in glourious sunshine, at the Land Rover Show. Highlights included Sam coming second in the twist off and Tony making a landy out of beer cans !!!
16 drivers then took part in the summer treasure hunt, which saw us looking for clues along a 40 mile route.
Cow Town Carnival...a small show, but none the less, a good turn out by our members, resulted in a fine display of vehicles being exhibited.
The STEAM FAYRE...our local show, and what a show we put on. 31 trucks and over 50 members made this the best event ever put on by our club. Along with 5 trial demos and 3 arena appearances, it was noted that next year's planning will start in earnest !!
Wales...camping....non stop fun in the mountains saw 9 trucks enjoying some of Wales' finest lanes.
Land Rover Max show, Warwick, saw a small number of us heading to Stoneleigh Showground for a Bank Holiday experience to remember. A fab off road course and good weather made it all worth while.
Along with ever growing numbers at our monthly trials, the club is still the number one in South Devon.
Thanks, as always, to you the members for your continued support.

     Cheers,
     Nick
